As you may know the Municipality of Cassandra increased water price rates from 1st January 2012. The increase applies to the whole of the municipality and is, in our opinion, rather excessively high and ignores the fact that most municipality residents are seasonal and use their properties as holiday homes, thus having increased needs of water consumption during the summer. The price increases range from 40% for small consumptions (for homes without a garden) to 60% for larger ones. But since the Municipality of Cassandra employees do not always provide accurate consumption measurements per semester and the increase rate depends on the consumption, these increases may be much larger and the charges higher in some periods.
We have already received a number of complaints regarding improperly increased bills, but the capability for intervention of our Community is limited. We recommend, along with the self understood effort to reduce water consumption, to verify your measurements twice a year(at 30/6and31/12) and submit an appeal if they do not agree with the ones indicated on the relevant water bill. For your information note that, considering this matter, the managing committee of Quarter XVI has filed a legal action before the Administrative Court of Thessaloniki. This action has the full support of our Community. Our Community has also filed a formal protest in a letter to the Mayor of Cassandra (08/11/2012).
